Artist's Description

The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, also known as Barcelona Cathedral, is the Gothic cathedral and seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain. The cathedral was constructed from the 13th to 15th centuries, with the principal work done in the 14th century. In the late 19th century, this neo-Gothic fašade was constructed over the nondescript exterior that was common to Catalan churches. The roof is notable for its gargoyles, featuring a wide range of animals, both domestic and mythical.

During the day, and well into the night, this site enjoys thousands of tourists. To get this shot, I got up at 5:30AM and arrived at the church just before sunrise. Not a soul was there, except for lots of pigeons which kept flying past my long exposures and becoming blurred smudges. So I grabbed a granola bar and made them all eat behind me while I took this 60 second exposure.
