The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, also known as Barcelona Cathedral, is the Gothic cathedral and seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain. The cathedral was constructed from the 13th to 15th centuries, with the principal work done in the 14th century. In the late 19th century, this neo-Gothic façade was constructed over the nondescript exterior that was common to Catalan churches. The roof is notable for its gargoyles, featuring a wide range of animals, both domestic and mythical.
During the day, and well into the night, this site enjoys thousands of tourists. To get this shot, I got up at 5:30AM and arrived at the church just before sunrise. Not a soul was there, except for lots of pigeons which kept flying past my long exposures and becoming blurred smudges. So I grabbed a granola bar and made them all eat behind me while I took this 60 second exposure.
Peter enjoys finding new places to explore and to capturing both the beauty and the feeling of the places he explores. His art has graced the halls of American Embassies around the world, airports and businesses. He continues to travel the world with his very patient wife Megan at his side.
